Winter Care

Low humidity during winter makes the air dry which in turn leads to dry skin during winter season. Skin care is very essential in all the weathers and more so in winter because dry skin can flake and chances are you may develop eczema. It is very important to moisturize the skin during winter, the key is to keep the skin moist. It is best to use an oil based moisturizer during this dry weather.

The more oil the moisturizer contains the better protection it will give you against dryness. Look for moisturizers that are in the form of ointment since ointments contain 80% oil and 20% water. It hydrates the skin more effectively as compared to creams and lotions. However, avoid using ointments in areas that tend to get hot or sweaty.

In extremely dry weather conditions you might have to moisturize frequently to keep the skin soft and nourished. No matter whatever skin type you have but in dry weather you need heavy moisturising, so indulge yourself in some great emollients. Do not forget to wear your sunscreen when you step out, since UV rays can penetrate through the clouds. It is beleived that the suns rays are powerful throughout the year and it is 17% on sand and approximately 80% on snow. Also when you step out wear layers of clothing so that you can remove it as and when required and thus you can prevent overheating or sweating.

During snow fall it is best to wear gloves since it will protect the hands from cold dry air. Use separate moisturizers for your different body parts since a product which is meant for hands will not serve the purpose if applied on the feet. Be extra careful when buying a moisturizer for your face and neck, look for one which has SPF (Sun protection factor) of 15 or above.
