Types of Highlighting

Highlighting is a rage these days with the new flow of colours every season it is difficult to decide the colour effect you want. We help you decode some highlighting methods to get a unique colour this season, you sure don’t want those common streaking and global colouring methods.

Panelling – Slabs of colour are applied to the hair using foils. Usually different layers of colours are used and the technique often gives a dramatic look.

Halo Highlights – These are highlights but not in the traditional way. This refers to the placement of the highlights – usually in a T section on the top section of the hair to create a glow around the face.

Dip dyeing – This method is inspired by the technique of Tie and Die (used for clothes). The ends of your hair are coloured either with a subtle tone or a vibrant one. You can add more drama by using contrasting colours like brown with red ends.

Tonal lights – This is a milder version of dip dyeing. It suits mid-length or shorter hair. The ends are coloured then a semi- permanent wash is applied over the top for extra brightness and strong tone of colour.

Hidden colour – Sections of hair are taken from underneath and coloured. This style can add a lot of versatility to your look, for you can pin up your hair to reveal the colour beneath.

If this information overload about the types of highlighting is confusing you instead of helping you to take an informed decision then don’t feel shy to ask questions to your hairdresser. Take suggestions and most importantly listen to suggestions. Discuss your lifestyle with your hairdresser and arrive at a common understanding, don’t dominate. You would have visualised yourself with a certain colour but it may not be the right one for your hair and personality type, so be open to discuss it.
