Treating Dry Skin

Among many types of skin, dry skin is one of them. The skin may get dry due to various factors. Lack of moisture and excessive production of dead cells on the skin are the major factors contributing to the problem of dry skin.

Other factors include winter season, dry weather, hot water, harsh soap, and health related conditions, such as diabetes and thyroid. Dry skin looks lifeless and dull. It is very important that the lost moisture in the skin is restored, so that the skin is relieved from dryness and dullness. The various techniques of dealing with dry skin are discussed hereunder.

TREATING dry skin

It is very important to exfoliate the skin at least thrice a week, so that the skin is relieved from dryness and lifelessness. Exfoliating the skin would help in getting rid of the dead cells of the skin from the surface of the skin, thus leaving behind fresh and glowing skin. The three basic steps in the exfoliation process include cleansing, toning and moisturizing the skin. A good cleanser should be chosen to clean the face. The skin is freed from all the dirt and dust with the help of the cleansing process. Use of soaps should be avoided. Soaps tend to make the skin drier. An individual should make use of a scrub after cleaning the face with a cleanser, so that all the dead skin is removed properly. Thereafter, a toner should be used on the skin, so that the elasticity of the skin is improved. Toners also help in improving the firmness of the skin. Alcohol free toners should be selected, as alcohol is a drying agent and may make the skin drier. After applying toner on the skin, moisturizer should be applied. The skin would be revived, refreshed and moisturized in a great way with the help of the exfoliation process.

In case of medical causes of dry skin, such as thyroid and diabetes, it is recommended to seek the doctor’s advice for treating the problem of dry skin.

In case an individual suffers from bacterial invasion, thus causing dry skin, it is recommended to seek the advice of the dermatologist to treat the problem.
