Things To Know About Microdermabrasion
As the name suggests, microdermabrasion is the procedure of abrading the upper layer of the skin. This method helps in improving the texture of the skin, it improves the quality of the skin.
Microdermabrasion can help you get rid of wrinkles, fine lines, scars, marks, spots, acne marks and uneven skin tone. The procedure is such that it uses a machine that works like a vacuum for the skin. The machine uses crystals to exfoliate the upper layer of the skin, thus revealing the fresh skin cells.
Moreover, when you get rid of the upper layer, the marks and scars fade away, even the laugh lines are gone. This technique resurfaces the skin layer but it is a non-surgical procedure, hence the recovery time is very less. In fact, you can get back to work immediately after a session of microdermabrasion.
This treatment is also known as skin polishing and is conducted by both, dermatologist and cosmetologist. There are several types of machines each with a different type of crystal technology.
The common types of crystals used in microdermabrasion are as follows:
Aluminum Oxide
Sodium Chloride
Sodium Bicarbonate
Magnesium Oxide.
Of all the above mentioned crystals the most widely used one is aluminum oxide crystal, they are best choice since they are not absorbed by the skin and have anti-bacterial properties that can help treat acne prone skin. There is a variant to the usual crystal based microdermabrasion machine, the non-crystal machine is what we are talking about.
It does not use crystals, instead, it uses sandpaper or hand piece with crushed diamonds at the tip. This procedure is manual and it abrades the skin. Though both the methods are effective in treating skin conditions, the crystal machines are more popular. They do not have any side effects and the healing doesn’t take much time.
In some cases where the skin needs a little more exfoliation, the patient might experience redness and peeling, but this will subside in few hours. One can think of going for a hydrating facial to combat the dryness and peeling. In case of any infection of the skin you may want to consider consulting a doctor, however, this is very rare.
