The Dreaded Dandruff
Dandruff may seem to be trivial but is a dreaded condition. It is usually very stubborn and doesn’t go away easily. Dandruff are of two types; dry powdery one and oil scaling ones. Both of them can be equally irritating and are treated differently. Except the fact that in both the cases, one should keep the scalp clean. Dirt and grime or product residue can make the condition worse. Dandruff is not common among children, it usually occurs after puberty. During childhood, head lice is a common problem. Dandruff may come and go but it doesn’t go that easily.
Moreover, it is a highly contagious condition, so it can spread in the family. There are certain precautions that you can take, which will help in controlling the condition. Use a separate comb or brush, wash your hair frequently during summer. Don’t oil your hair too much, wash it after 3- 4 hours.
These simple tips will help in containing the condition but will not help you get rid of the dreaded dandruff. Dry dandruff is easier to cure as compared to oily one. Oily scales stick to the scalp and are usually caused due to germs or bacteria. Oily dandruff will start appearing in the frontal area of the scalp and slowly progresses backwards if it is not treated early.
It can also lead to baldness in some severe cases. This condition also causes oily skin, especially near the forehead and the nose. You will first notice your T-zone getting oilier with the onset of this kind of dandruff.
Dandruff and hair fall go hand in hand. Dry dandruff is usually caused by environmental factors and stress whereas oily one is caused due to an infection of germs. Oily dandruff can further develop into psoriasis and spread even around the forehead. It can completely disfigure the hairline or spread downwards behind the ears.
Some cases might require treatment with a dermatologist, prescription medicines and topical creams or lotions may be advised. It is good to complete the entire course of medication, don’t leave the treatment half way. Keep these simple things in mind and say goodbye to dandruff.
