Sunspots – Prevention and Treatment
Skin is a sensitive organ and requires good care to have a good flawless skin tone. But as one tends to age they are prone to develop sunspots when exposed to the sun. Sunspots as most of us know are flat brown spots that appear mostly on the face chest, neck, arms and back of the hands.
If you are wondering how sunspots occur, then you have to understand the role of melanin in our skin. Melanin is produced by cells called melanocytes. It is a pigment found in the skin which acts as a protective shield against the harsh UV rays of the sun. The reason our body gets tanned when we are out in the sun is due to melanin production.
But as one ages there is considerable reduction in the production of melanin pigment, thus making the aged people vulnerable to get the sunspots.
Ways to prevent sunspot.
People who are constantly exposed to sun’s UV rays are at risk of developing sunspots .They have to use sun screen lotion or cream to protect from the sun’s rays and minimize the body’s exposure to the sun with proper clothing.
Those who have darker pigmentation absorb more sun’s rays than the lighter skinned person. Prevent using tanning beds as it is more potentially harmful than the direct sun’s rays to cause sunspots and other skin damages.
