Sunscreen For Your Hair
With the onset of global warming the temperature is constantly rising and so are the ultraviolet rays of the sun. Its time to bid goodbye to cool winter months and we are near the hot summer. Although sun rays are a good source of Vitamin D but it should be taken in moderation. Exposure to sun is harmful not only for the skin but also for the hair. Though too much of importance has been attached to protect the skin against harsh sun rays but there is hardly any importance given to hair protection. Like skin, hair too is susceptible to sun burn.
The harmful UV rays can cause dry, brittle hair, it also leads to fading of the natural hair colour and split ends. There are 2 types of UV rays, UVA and UVB, the former one is very strong and consistent through all the seasons of the year. UVA rays can penetrate the thickest of cloud let alone your delicate hair, these rays penetrate deep inside the hair shaft.
There are simple ways to protect your hair from the sun damage, the most simple method is to use a scarf or a cap. Covering your head is the best solution if your exposure is limited to an hour or so, however, for prolonged sun exposure you would need hair protection filters.
These filters are of two types, namely physical filters and chemical filters. Physical filters form a coating or a thin film on the surface of the hair and reflect the sun rays instead of absorbing it. They work on the principle of repelling the heat and rays.
Chemical filters on the other hand absorb UV rays and prevent these rays from penetrating deeper into the hair shaft. They are more convenient to use since they can be mixed with other hair products like gels, serum etc.
With our urban lifestyle we cannot confine ourselves to our homes but we can certainly adopt some measures to reduce the impact of the harmful rays. With a little bit of tender loving care your hair will look and feel fresh all the time.
