Sun Shield
With the onset of global warming the temperature is constantly rising and so are the ultraviolet rays of the sun. Although sunrays are a good source of Vitamin D but it should be taken in moderation. The best time to have a sun bath is in the morning before 8 am, when the rays are very mild. After 8 am, exposure to sunlight is very harmful for the skin and it becomes worse between 10 am to 3 pm. The UV rays can penetrate from the upper layer of the skin and can damage the cells of our body. UV rays are so strong that they penetrate through sun glass, so you can imagine the plight of your skin.
With our urban lifestyle we cannot confine ourselves to our homes but we can certainly adopt some measures to reduce the impact of the harmful rays. With a little bit of tender loving care your skin will look and feel fresh and youthful. Not to mention, UV rays also cause wrinkles. Wearing a sunscreen is the most ideal way of protecting yourself from the sun. The type of sunscreen u wear depends on your lifestyle. If you have a field job then a sunscreen lotion with SPF 30 or more will be suitable. SPF is the sun protection factor, the higher it is, the longer will it stay. These days sunscreen lotions are available for various skin types so choose one which best suits your skin type. Incase if your exposure to the sun is for 3 – 4 hours or more then you need to re-apply sunscreen every 2 hours, whereas for normal exposure between 30 mins to 1 hour you can safely use SPF 15 or more.
During summer, even if you step out for 5 minutes don’t forget to apply your shield. Dermatologists recommend that you wear your sunscreen even if you are indoors and also during monsoon. Depending on the weather you can choose either a water resistant sunscreen or an ordinary one. In places where the humidity is very high and you tend to sweat more, it is advisable to use a water proof sunscreen. Nowadays it is easily available in the market, this type of sunscreen is also useful for swimming. One last thumb rule regarding use of sunscreen is that it should be applied atleast atleast 10 to 15 mins before exposure to the sun. Remember that UV rays arensible for sun burn and skin cancer.
