Skin Exfoliation

Exfoliation is the process of removing the dead skin cells from the uppermost layer of your skin, the dead skin cells which accumulate on the surface of your skin form patches and can make your skin look dull and lifeless. Exfoliation helps in removing these dead cells so as to make the new skin cells visible on your skin.

There are two methods of exfoliation, chemical and natural, both these methods are safe and if carried out properly can give very good results. Exfoliation can give your skin a new glow but it should be done at the hands of a professional, specially if you opt for chemical exfoliation. In this type of exfoliation a thin film of chemical which is in the form of cream or lotion is applied to your skin and is left for approximately 10 minutes, mild irritation may occur and it is natural but you need to inform your therapist about the same.

This type of exfoliation should never be practised at home since it requires some expert knowledge, however, natural exfoliation can be done at home. For home exfoliation you can use any product that has granules but care should be taken not to rub your skin too hardly, though the idea is to remove dead skin cells but it can be removed even with gentle scrubbing.

Care should be taken while exfoliation your facial skin since too much of rubbing cause micro wounds, also the granules of your exfoliator should not be too rough, it should be gentle. Exfoliation can be done once in 3- 4 weeks depending on your skin type, oily skin would require exfoliation in every two weeks.

If you intend to do chemical exfoliation then it is necessary to maintain a gap of atleast 1 month since chemical exfoliation uses strong chemicals which may cause damage to your healthy skin cells if done frequently. The results of chemical exfoliation are far more effective and visible as compared to the natural method.
