Skin Care During Menopause
Menopause has various side effects which every woman has to deal with, the intensity of the effects may vary. But a hassle free menopause is only gifted to few lucky ones. It is said that if your mother had a normal phase during menopause you too are less likely to face any problems.
Woman often go through various hair and skin related issues, menopause also affects mood and can cause depression. During menopause some major changes occur in the hormones, the levels of progesterone and estrogen get disturbed as a result there is hormonal imbalance.
This imbalance makes the skin thin, it becomes dry and loses elasticity, the oil glands become less productive and cause the skin to look dull and lifeless. This may be a reason to fret but you can breathe a sigh of relief, for there are some things that you can incorporate in your daily routine to help you take care of your skin.
1) Deep moisturizing - Use a deep intensive moisturizer for the entire body. Use a separate moisturizer meant for the face and neck, do not use a body lotion on the face. A product meant for the face will also have anti ageing properties and will take care of your wrinkles and dark patches if any.
2) Wear your sunscreen – Wear your sunscreen liberally on all the exposed body parts even when you are indoors. Use a sunscreen which has a Sun Protection Factor (SPF) of 15. Don’t get fooled by products that read ” UV filters ” and don’t have SPF.
3) Use warm water – Never bathe in hot water, use warm water and keep the bath time short, dont take long hot baths. Hot water baths will further dry out the skin.
4) Exercise – A physical activity of 25 to 30 minutes a day will increase the blood circulation, you can go for walks or practise yoga. Keep the exercise regime light, do not over exert yourself.
