Skin Care After Glycolic Peel
The advanced skin treatments like glycolic acid peel and micro-dermabrasion require special after care. Though the recovery period for these treatments is not long, there are certain precautions that should be followed.
Before we tell you about the precautions, we would like to tell you about the way this treatment is carried out and how it affects your skin. Let us discuss about Glycolic acid peel, essentially this method works on the principle of exfoliating the upper layer of the skin. It is said that the upper layer of the skin consists of dead cells and when you remove this layer the fresh new cells are revealed.
Glycolic acid peel uses a chemical, which is dabbed on the skin with a cotton and left for 5 minutes. It is then neutralized with a solution. The peeling of skin is not immediate, it occurs after a day or so. The skin literally peels off and becomes dry and looks dehydrated. Sun exposure should be avoided on the day of treatment. After the treatment you can think of going out, but you may want to stay at home since the peeling of skin is very evident.
This chemical is applied on the entire face including the eyes, hence it also takes care of dark circles. It lightens dark spots, scars and marks. This method is good for uneven skin tone and pimple marks. The upper layer of the skin is completely removed, but it cannot be removed in one go, you would need some 3 to 5 sessions to get complete result. The results are permanent, lest you get new marks and scars.
After care for glycolic acid peel would include an application of anti-biotic cream to prevent any infection. The common infections people encounter is itching and swelling of glands. But an anti-biotic medicine taken orally can prevent these infections.
Moreover, the skin becomes extremely dry and dehydrated due to peeling and would need some hydration. A good hydrating facial would be ideal after a peel off treatment. This will restore the moisture level of the skin. When your skin becomes too dry, it starts believing that you need more oil and hence produces excess sebum, this excess secretion can cause to pimples and acne.
