Shampoo and Condition Your Hair The Right Way
February 19, 2009
Shampooing means cleaning your hair and washing off all the impurities like dust, grime and grease. It is not only important to choose the right shampoo but also important to apply the shampoo correctly. Firstly, while buying your shampoo there are few factors that should be considered. Buy a shampoo that has as less number of ingredients as possible, two to three ingredients are ideal. If the ingredients list reads into a paragraph, dump the shampoo. Too many products tend to confuse your hair and is not good for the overall health of the hair.
Next is to select a shampoo according to the frequency of its usage, if you wash your hair everyday then go for a mild shampoo. It is important to understand your hair type before buying a shampoo, make the right decision by choosing the most ideal shampoo for your hair type.
Also remember whatever is the frequency of usage and type of hair, always use a pH balanced shampoo. Having selected the right shampoo, the method of application also plays a vital role. The first step is to comb your hair to remove knots and snarls, now wet the hair thoroughly. Use tap water if you are comfortable otherwise use warm water. But never use hot water, use lukewarm water for head baths.
Do not apply shampoo directly on the scalp, mix it with plain water in a jug and then pour it on your head, this will ensure an even distribution of shampoo and will not dry out the hair completely. Massage your scalp with the finger tips in a circular motion. Now rinse off the shampoo thoroughly, there shouldn’t be any residue of the shampoo.
Conditioning is also equally important as shampooing, use the right conditioner. The key to conditioning is to use the product in moderation, never use too much of conditioner it will weigh down your hair.
Excessive conditioner is difficult to rinse off and makes the hair limp and heavy. Use small quantity of conditioner and distribute it evenly. Also remember that conditioner should only be used on the hair shaft, not on the hair scalp. Leave the conditioner for at least 5 to 7 minutes even if the label recommends 2 to 3 minutes. A little extra time doesn’t hurt. You will be surprised to see the difference in the texture of your hair. So get savvy with these tips and have a beautiful, healthy mane.
