Role of Vitamins
Vitamins have always been propagated for their health benefits, they are not only good for the body but also for skin and hair care. We discuss the three common Vitamins which should be included in our daily life for a healthy and beautiful skin. It nourishes the skin internally and gives your skin a natural glow.
Vitamin C - This water soluble Vitamin does a lot more than just beating flu. Vitamin C is extremely important when it comes to forming collagen, which gives our skin the elasticity and suppleness. No creams or lotions can provide collagen to the skin for a simple reason that your skin will not absorb collagen from outside. It has to be produced naturally and Vitamin C aids in the production. The recommended daily intake of this Vitamin for a healthy adult is 45mg. Some good sources of Vitamin C are oranges, Indian gooseberries, kiwis, broccoli, sprouts etc.
Vitamin D - Without this vitamin, you lose out on calcium. Because Vitamin D breaks calcium down into a form that allows easy absorption in the intestine. The daily requirement for adults is 400 IU. Some excellent sources of Vitamin D are fatty fish, cod liver oil, egg yolk, butter etc. Vegetarians can get their dose of this Vitamin from fortified dairy products such as milk, cereal, ragi, margarine, curd etc. Also sunlight including indirect sunlight helps in the absorption of Vitamin D by the body.
Vitamin E - This vitamin can be used externally for it has skin softening properties. Break a Vitamin E capsule and mix it with your face pack for that smooth, nourished skin. This vitamin also acts as an antioxidant and has anti inflammatory properties. When applied externally it works as an excellent moisturizer and softens the skin. Tomatoes are a good source of Vitamin E.
