Retro Style Makeup

Like vintage hairstyles, retro style makeup was also very dramatic with highlighted eyes and a pale face. Or dark shades of lipstick with equally dark eye shadows. They also used false lashes to create those spiked lash look, the shades of eyeshadow were also loud and bold. The lips were defined very well with most women opting for creating a fuller pout. The makeup was very heavy with women wearing everything like, foundation, compact powder or translucent powder, eyeliner, eye shadow, mascara, lip liner, lipstick, blusher and so on. Light makeup was not taken seriously.

Metallic shades of lipstick and eye shadows were a rage during the 80′s. The way mineral makeup has made its entry in the current beauty scene, earlier it was Mica which dominated the cosmetic industry. Mica offered high shine and it can be grounded into very tiny particles which gave a flawless look. A pot of mica powder was an absolute essential, since the powder was very fine, it was either applied with damp makeup brushes or mixed with moisturiser for a better stay.

During the 80′s, the two most prominent makeup features were the eyes and cheekbones. The eyeliner was worn very thick and extended right upto the temples. The liner was also applied to fill the eyes completely. Blue and teal coloured eyeliners were also used during these years.

The eyeshadow too was applied heavily not only only on the upper eyelid but also under the eyes, just below the lower eyelid. The hues of blusher were also very dark and it was used heavily, unlike these days when blusher is made to appear natural.

During the 80′s blusher was made to look prominent and was also added with shimmer for that extra glittery effect. Everything about those golden years was loud, bold and heavy. Subtlety had gone out of the window during the 80′s.
