Perming Advice
Perming is the ultimate hair tragedy, it has some severe effects which are irreversible. It breaks the original bonds of the hair and then reforms new bonds that are curled. The entire procedure is chemical based and in some cases causes tremendous hair loss. If you still choose to go ahead with perming then at least read through these simple tips to minimise the torture. You need to take care of your hair thoroughly before and after perming, infact after care is very important if you don’t want to loose your hair.
Pre-perming care :
There are 2 types of chemicals used for perming, Acid based and Alkaline based. Depending on the tightness of the curls and the quality of your hair you need to make a decision about the type of chemical to be used. Discuss about this with your hair stylist. If you want really tight and strong curls that last longer then go for Alkaline based perming solution.
This is suitable for stubborn hair that is difficult to style. If you want soft curls then an acid based solution would be fine. This type of perming is suitable for delicate hair and doesn’t offer strong curls, it adds natural looking curls with bounce and body. Before you go for perming ensure that your hair is well nourished, start preparing for a healthy mane at least 3 to 4 months before you undergo the chemical slaughter. Regularly condition your hair and make them strong to enable your poor tresses to face the self induced torture.
Post-perming care :
Once you punish your hair with perming, use hair products meant specially for permed hair. Always use a shampoo and conditioner formulated specially for permed hair. Strong shampoos and too much of rubbing can cause relaxation of the curls.
Do not use normal conditioners since it will either condition the hair excessively or mildly. Ask your hair stylist for any recommendations. Avoid any type of friction when hair is permed, also heat styling products should be completely avoided. Bear these tips in mind before and after visiting the salon.
