The scorching summer heat, needs some cooling, with our experts advice, you can beat the heat this season. Your poor skin has to bear the brunt of the rising mercury levels. It’s time you get ready and prepare your survival remedies to combat the damaging effects of the sun. Apart from a good skin care regime, a lot more goes into maintaining your skin during these hot months.
Diet - You may not realise, but our diet plays an important role in the quality of our skin. Stick to a staple diet during summers, the regular Indian food like dal, rice, roti and vegetables is the best choice. But don’t over indulge in eating, eat moderately. Avoid food which is high in sodium content and fat. Oily and extra salted food stuff like chips, can dehydrate your body and eventually your skin.
Replace fast food with fresh fruits. Eat a lot of watery foods like watermelon, cucumber, oranges, carrots, spinach etc. The humidity in the weather causes loss of water in our body, so include more water. Keep sipping on coconut water, nimbu paani, buttermilk and the likes. But we suggest you eat whole fruits instead of fruit juices. Rather go for vegetable juices.
Skin care - The first step to skin care is cleanliness, bathe twice in a day. This will prevent prickly heat, which an itchy infection mainly caused due to blockage of sweat glands. If you have a tendency to perspire a lot, you may develop fungal infection. Avoid wearing tight shoes and clothes. Don’t wear synthetic fabrics, use cotton, mull and linen during summer.
Sun protection - The next important thing is to save your skin from the harmful sun rays. Over exposure to sun can make your skin tanned and burnt. It is better to avoid sun tan, rather than deal with tanned skin. Wear your sunscreen, make sunscreen your best friend and keep it handy. Do not step out of the house without sunscreen. Remember you need an SPF of 15 and above and you also need a re-application every 2 hours.
