Nail Down Your Nail Problems

Nails are the window to our health, they reveal a lot about our over all well being. You can tell the health of a person by examining his/her nails. These days, however, nails have become a fashion symbol. People flaunt their paws and decorate it with nail paint, crystals, stickers, beads and so on. Nail art has emerged as a new method of styling nails, unlike earlier when only nail polish was used for decorating. Not everyone is blessed with healthy nails, but for such people cosmetic nails are the solution.

Artificial nails in the form of acrylic or gel are available in the market. They make the worst of nails look pretty, but it is better to keep a check on the natural quality of the nail. Nail too like other body parts has some problems and can suffer, such nails becomes delicate and crack easily. Some of the common nail problems are discussed herein.

Thin, pale concave nails are caused due to deficiency of iron. Thick, discoloured nails with improper shape are caused due to fungal infections. Some people also experience in-grown toe nails, this is caused majorly due to ill-fitting shoes. Tight, narrow shoes don’t allow any place for movement and often causes in growth of nails.

Also prolonged use of nail polish causes yellowish orange stains on the nails, chronic varnish usage doesn’t allow the nails to breathe. Even water can cause nail problems it leads to ridged, discoloured nails with swollen nail fold. Constant wetting of hands is not good, try to keep your hands dry.

You will be surprised to know that more often than not your nails can be a window to the problems in your body. An anaemic person may have pale concave nails. A person suffereing from jaundice will have yellow nails. Increase in the curvature of nails indicates a respiratory problem. Bluish discolouration occurs due to carbon monoxide poisoning. A diabetic may have the entire nail white with only the last 1-2mm pink colour.
