Monsoon Skin Care

Though monsoon might sound like the most ideal season for your skin but it is not so. There is moisture in the air but this moisture will not transfer to your skin. The most common skin problem during monsoon is fungus and yeast infections in the folds of skin. Fungi and yeast survive in humidity and our wet skin is the breathing ground for such infestation. Our feet is most susceptible to such skin infections because they are exposed to to stagnant rain water and is usually wet for long hours. The best thing to do during monsoon is to keep your feet dry, allow circulation of air since closed footwear can aggravate the skin problems.

It is advisable to change your footwear at work, if that seems difficult then remove your shoes/sandal and allow your feet to dry. Also soaking feet in warm soapy water is a good regime for skin care. Add a few caps of Betadine as a disinfectant.

Some skin care tips during monsoon are, it is not the time for heavy moisturising, use a light moisturising treatment. Also exfoliation is a good option during this season, chemical peels and regular scrubs are good for the skin. Rainy season also calls for sun protection, the UV rays of sun are so sharp that they can penetrate the thickest of cloud and damage your skin.

It is important to use a sunscreen to prevent skin tanning, use a sunscreen indoors as well as outdoors. During monsoon you can use a Sun Protection Factor (SPF) of 15 because the UVB rays vary according to the season, it is milder during monsoons but UVA rays remain constant. It is advisable to use a water resistant sunscreen during rains. As far as makeup is concerned substitute your foundation with light mousse or compact.
