November 11, 2008
Menopause is an important turn in a woman’s life, it results in symptoms like depression, mood swings, changes in skin and hair. But with a little care you can get glowing skin which will surely uplift your mood. The common skin problems are dryness, wrinkles and dark patches. During this phase a correct diet and exercise is very essential. Here are some of the things that you can do to counteract menopausal changes.
However, all these should be started around the age of 35 to 40 years since menopause can set in any time between 40 to 50 years. The first step is cleansing and for cleansing avoid soaps instead use mild face washes. Use sunscreen with SPF 15 or more even when indoors. Follow a skin care regime religiously, every evening use a moisturiser with an anti- aging ingredient like anti- oxidants, alpha hydroxyl acids (AHA). Take facials every month, a microdermabrasion or skin peel every one to three months can help. Take vitamin supplements since the natural vitamin manufacturing capacity of your body tends to deteriorate with age. Since menopause causes depression it shows up on the skin as well, treating the skin externally will not be of great help, it is essential to maintain calm. Keep your anxiety and stress levels in control by practicing Yoga. Few basic yogic exercises can help a lot.
There are 3 basic exercises which should be done for 5 minutes each on empty stomach.
Bastika - Take deep breathe from your nose and blow the air out from the nose itself. This is very simple and should be done first before you start the other exercises, its like warm up.
Kapalbhatti - In this exercise you blow out air from your nostrils and are detoxifying yourself. The speed of blowing out shouldn’t be too fast or too slow. The ideal speed is One blow per second.
Anulom Vilom - Here you breathe in air from one nostril and breathe out from the other one. While you breathe in from one nostril you need to close the other other one with your thumb and while breathing out release your thumb for the air to flow out.
