Menopause Related Hair Problem

Menopause is the worst phase in a woman’s life, she should learn to cope with it and only awareness about the effects of menopause can help deal with the situation. Menopause causes many alterations in the level of hormone which affect the hair, skin, mental balance etc. Every woman has to go through this stage and some may face less difficulties while others may face severe symptoms, it depends a great deal on your mother.

It is said that if your mother had a tough phase during menopause you too are likely to face difficulties. Some women have high levels of male sex hormones which leads to thinning to scalp and development of thick coarse hair is other private parts of the body. The major hormone which triggers hair loss in woman is estrogen, during menopause the levels of estrogen drops, estrogen is known to block testosterone from forming DHT (dihydrotestosterone). This DHT is the cause of hair loss, both in men and women.

There are 3 types of estrogen;

1) Estraiol – This is produced by the ovaries before menopause

2) Estrone – This one is a little weaker estrogen and is produced by ovaries and other hormones.

3) Estriol – This is the weakest form of estrogen and is produced from other estrogens.

There is imbalance in the estrogen during menopause which can be treated with medication. HRT, known as Hormone Replacement Therapy is the best solution for this menopausal woman since it will also take care of other issues like, lack of sleep, mood swings, depression etc. But it is important to consult a physician or a gynaec, don’t by medicines available over the counter since anything related to hormones can have severe side effects. If a woman is aware about the body changes and is prepared for her menopause she can deal with it effectively.
