The cool nippy months bring a reprieve from the scorching heat of summer. They also herald festival time, the New Year and many other reasons to party. In short it is the time to look good but the cold dry winds of winter steal the moisture from your skin. This season be a boon for those with oily skin but is a bane for dry skin, as the dry skin can get itchy and flaky and pose severe skin ailments if not cared for. Friction from heavy clothing and indoor heating can cause skin diseases like psoriasis and eczema. Here are few simple tips to keep your skin glowing and healthy.
Use sunscreen - Men usually don’t like to get into skin care since they find these activities to be feminine but time has changed. The new generation of men doesn’t shy away from taking care of their skin. For those who care for their skin, sunscreen is a must before you step out. Whatever be the season don’t skip sunscreen, it is said that the UVA rays are constant throughout the year and can penetrate deep inside the skin. On the other hand UVB rays vary according to the season, they are not strong through out the year.
Skin care products - Do not use products with very strong perfumes, scented formulations are no good for skin. They look fancy and come is good packaging but don’t do anything good to your skin. Also check the ingredients of your shaving cream, foam, gel and after shave since some of them contain alcohol. Alcohol is known to dry out the skin so avoid it during the winter. Dump your soap for a face wash, they are gentle and won’t rip your skin of its moisture.
Lip care – Take special care of your lips since they can chap easily as they lack sweat and oil glands. It is important to protect your lips, use a lip balm or butter. Do not lick your lips as this will worsen the condition. Remember dry black lips are a complete turnoff. Also note that Petroleum jelly is of no good for lips.
