Men and Beauty
Beauty and men have always been poles apart but the metrosexual man has now taken interest in grooming and skin care. This was certainly not a trend few years ago, men and skin care was considered a taboo. It is only recently that beauty treatments are taken seriously by the men brigade, until then beauty was a woman’s prerogative.
Infact, men were looked down upon if their secretly used their sisters or mothers products. There were not any beauty salons for men. However, the situation has changed now and men are aware about their grooming. This awareness has encouraged the opening up of several men’s salon. There are several cosmetic companies too that have ventured into men’s range.
The metrosexual man is not shy and is fully aware of the importance of personal grooming and hygiene. Earlier beauty treatment was considered very feminine and no man would dare to enter a salon for anything more than a haircut or maybe shaving. Men’s skin too is prone to ageing and is subject to various tortures like sun damage, pollution, dust and grime and so on. Though men’s skin is 20 times thicker than a woman’s skin, it is very oily and requires special skin care products.
Just like a woman a man’s skin too is also exposed to extreme weather conditions and can become dry or oily. A good skin care regime that includes sun protection, light moisturisation and night massage is a great way of maintaining the health of your skin. It is also important to keep the skin clean, hence a good face wash that is pH balanced is essential.
Men should also be careful while shaving, it is important to moisturise the skin before shaving and protect it from infection, cuts and marks after the shaving job. Look for a shaving cream that is emollient in nature. It will make your hair softer and improve the shaving experience, moreover, it will not leave ugly marks and scars. Always use a light moisturier after dabbing an after shave since after shave usually contain alcohol and can dry out the skin.
