Know All About Skin
Our skin constantly renewing itself and it takes around 30 days for newly formed skin cell to move step by step through the layers of epidermis until it becomes hard and flat and is eventually rubbed off the surface. This is what we call the dead skin cells that are rubbed off from the skin’s surface with exfoliation. There is a particular vitamin that controls the hardening process of skin and lack of that Vitamin would mean rough and horny skin. This essential vitamin is Vitamin A, a deficiency of Vitamin A can give you hard skin. Here we talk about various ways of keeping the skin soft and supple and aromatherapy is one of them.
When we apply aromatherapy massage oils, they penetrate from the top most layers of the skin to the inner layers. The tiny molecules of essential aroma oils penetrate from the epidermis layer to the dermis layer of the skin. It is in this layer that the fibres like collagen and elastic are intermingled and it is the alignment of these fibres that gives skin its elasticity. Also in this layer are the hair roots, gland, blood vessels and lymph vessels.
It is said that a healthy and nourished body will give a glowing skin. Our skin is the first organ of our body which is affected due to poor diet, vitamin and mineral deficiencies and improper elimination. In short, skin is the mirror of your health. Most clear, radiant skin is a sign of good health, while skin that is dry and flaky, or oily and pimply can be indicative of internal problems, especially where nutrition is concerned.
Externally there is little you can do to keep the skin healthy and glowing and aromatherapy oils are a good treat for your skin. A good moisturiser for all seasons would be a mixture of lavender, geranium and sandal oil blended with water based gel for oily skin and jojoba oil (base oil) for dry skin. Add approximately 4 to 5 drops each of the essential oils in 15ml of base oil (jojoba or gel).
