Know About Eczema
Eczema is a skin disease and is widely associated with various skin conditions like rashes, Varicose eczema, dry itchy eczema, winter itch, hereditary eczema, cradle cap in infants, etc. Whatever be the type, you need to consult a dermatologist to cure it before it gets worse.
Home care tips for eczema:
1) Moisturize your skin - Eczema can be aggravated due to dry skin. Moisturizing the skin thoroughly is very important, it will soothe the skin and allow it to heal naturally. Do not use soap on the affected area since it will dry out the skin further and rip the skin of its natural oils. For intensive moisturising use emollients, they are better than the regular moisturisers.
2) Use a band aid – The dry area of the skin which is not broken or cracked can be covered with a waterproof tape, this will moisten the skin and the skin will heal better. These tapes can be used with some emollient or ointment as prescribed by the doctor or without them.
3) Soaps – Use the right soap when infected with eczema, soap that has oil or fat base is the best. Also avoid scented soaps and loofahs, washcloths or sponges, this will act as abrasive.
4) Allergy – Eczema can be triggered by certain allergies of food or skin care products. Studies show that food like eggs, nuts, wheat and maize can cause eczema, also dairy products like milk, coffee and soybean milk can trigger this condition. Also foods that are high in mineral content like ladies finger, ginger and onion can be a problem. Fruits such as oranges, watermelons and papayas should be avoided. Also limit the intake of ice creams and aerated drinks. Some skin care products known to trigger eczema are cosmetic creams, lotions, perfumes, deodorants, scented soaps and detergents.
