How To Use Aroma Oils
Neat essential oils are powerful concentrated substances. Prior to use on the skin, they are normally diluted in a carrier oil or lotion to facilitate application and ensure against a skin reaction. You can choose the type of carrier oils as per your specific requirement. An easy way of calculating how much essential oil to add to a base oil is to measure the amount of base oil in milliliters and then add about half that number of drops of essential oil.
For example to a 50 ml bottle of base oil, add about 25 drops of essential oil – this gives a 2.5 percent dilution. Add a few more drops for physical remedy, a few less for the treatment of an emotional or psychological problem. To 1 tablespoon base oil add 6-9 drops of essential oils.
To 1 teaspoon carrier oil add 2-3 drops of essential oil. Therapeutic massage is the main method used by professional aromatherapist in hair care. It can also be practised at home with a right blend of essential and carrier oils. When these oils are massaged on the skin, the tiny molecules of the oil penetrate the pores and hair follicles.
They reach the fine blood carrying capillaries and once they enter the bloodstream, they are transported round the body. Even mucous membranes are receptive to essential oils. Hence when the oil is massaged on the skin or scalp they penetrate deep inside and heal.
Aromatherapy preparations are beneficial for conditions like dry hair, dandruff, hair fall etc.If you have dry, lacklustre hair mix a 2 drops each of Rosemary oil, Geranium oil and Lavender oil in 4-5 teaspoons of Jojoba oil. Add few drops of these oils to your shampoo for a soft and smooth effect.
For oily hair mix 2 drops each of Lemon oil, Orange oil, Rosemary oil in 4- 5 teaspoons of Jojoba oil. Massage these oils atleast twice in a week and leave it overnight, you can also wrap a hot towel which will facilitate the oil to penetrate further. Aromatherapy has the ability to revive a tired mind and stimulate the memory.
