How to Treat Damaged Hair
While colouring, perming and straightening of hair can make your hair look great for a time they can also cause damaged hair. In some instances, these processes can permanently alter the interior hair shaft. This causes hair weakness, promoting split ends, frizzy hair and hair that breaks easily. As well as this, because the cuticle is affected, processed, damaged hair is less shiny. This is because cuticle alteration prevents light reflecting on the hair surface.Damaged Hair Treatments
Natural Damaged Hair Treatments
There are several natural damaged hair treatments that you can use to care for damaged hair at home using products you probably already have in the kitchen. The most popular of these damaged hair treatments involve using mayonnaise and/or eggs. Other natural damaged hair treatments use vinegar to combat dryness and frizzy hair. Vinegar also works well on dandruff. Some of the home remedies for hair loss hair are a little stinky and even messy, but they work great in a pinch when you need a quick fix. If you can bear it, these solutions are well worth the effort. Keep in mind, though, these damaged hair treatments won’t provide lasting results. However, they at least work on the surface of the hair and temporarily improve its appearance.
You can also apply a salon quality deep conditioning Vitamin E treatment at home. Most salons have special versions of these treatments that they can apply to your hair during your next appointment, so be sure to ask your stylist about whether this is an option for you.
When you use your hair dryer, set it to the lowest heat setting possible, and the same holds true for irons. Believe it or not, warmer air does not necessarily dry your hair faster, it is the volume of air that really aids the drying process, not the temperature; unless you are standing outside in freezing temperatures, of course.
Do a Protein Treatment
Protein treatments will temporarily fill in the gaps of your hair cuticle to make it stronger. There are different levels of protein treatments ranging from hard-core proteins like Aphogee to milder protein treatments like ORS Hair Mayo. Whatever you choose, make sure that you read and follow the directions. Protein treatments can sometimes cause the hair to become hard. Therefore, you should always follow up your protein treatment with a moisturizing conditioner. You will need to do this protein treatment at least once a month for your hair damage.
Take an egg and separate the whites and the yolk. Whip out the whites, then blend the yolk with water in a blender and add the whipped whites. Apply on wet hair, massage and wash with cold water.
Mix some olive oil, honey, egg yolk and 1 tablespoon of lemon juice. Apply on hair and massage; wait 15 minutes and rinse with cold water.
Mash avocado, add some olive oil and smear on your hair. Wait for a few minutes and rinse.
Choose the right shampoo for your damaged hair
Many shampoos have cleaning agents that can actually damage your hair. Acidic shampoos with a ph between 4.5 and 6.7 are mostly recommended. Other tips for damaged hair when shampooing include being gentle when you are lathering your hair and not shampooing too often; you don’t need to shampoo your hair twice a day or even once a day. You can skip a day here and there.
