Healthy Hair Tips
July 28, 2008
Your hair reflects your general health and is vulnerable to stresses and strains of your everyday life. If you are not healthy and not taking care of yourself and not following a healthy diet then your hair will lose its shine and bounce and become dull. You should have a healthy diet and exercise enough to ensure that your hair follicles get enough blood.
A daily haircare routine and prompt treatment when problems arise are therefore of vital importance in maintaining the natural beauty of healthy hair. Hair can be fine, medium-textured or coarse. Fine hair always tends to lack volume, while medium hair is often quite easy to handle, strong and elastic. Coarse hair brings its own problems. Hair is abundant, but can be heavy, frizzy and difficult to control. You may find that you have fine hair in your hairline and on your temples, while the rest of your hair is medium or coarse.
Tips For Healthy Hair
Get a trim
Most stylists recommend a trim every six weeks. A regular trim will help prevent or get rid of split ends. Often, it’s not the entire head of hair that needs the fix - just the dried out ends. If you’re trying to grow your hair out and are freaked by the prospect of a cut, just make sure you clearly advise your stylist to cut off only up to the line of damage. Plus, seeing your hairdresser on a consistent basis will allow him or her to assess your hair during each visit, and help you get your hair to its maximum beauty potential. Consider it a regular checkup.
Don’t use a harsh shampoo and conditioner. If your shampoo says on its label that it is for “oily hair” then you need a new shampoo. Don’t use products that are meant to strip your hair of its naturally occurring oils. Opt for a gentler, more nourishing shampoo and an intense moisturizing conditioner.
Because over-processed, chemically treated, dried out hair needs extra moisturization to stay healthy, start using a leave-in conditioner immediately. Leave-in conditioners are formulated to be light enough that they can be applied to hair everyday without giving a greasy look or feel to your hair, but they are just heavy enough to keep those dried ends and fly-away strands in check.
If you want your hair to grow faster get it trimmed more often.
Truth: Everyone’s hair grows at its own rate. How fast it grows certainly is not dependent on how often you trim it. All trimming it does is to make your hair look neater as it gets rid of the split ends. Still many women trim their hair regularly because they believe hair grows faster that way.
Brushing your hair 100 times a day is wise.
Truth: This is a really famous myth that’s been repeated from mother to daughter for decades now. You will see it mentioned in hair care books too. Yet you never want to brush your hair except to style it. Over brushing like this tends to weaken and damage your hair.
Fading Hair Color
To lock in color, try using a shampoo that has a slightly acidic Ph. All shampoos designed to clarify, thicken, or control dandruff contain harsh, color-dimming ingredients and should thus be avoided.
Work with Nature – Everyone has different hair. It might be that your hair is fine, thick, wavy, straight, and so on. To look its best, you need to work with your natural hair. Otherwise, you will find that you become enslaved to your hair, going through constant coloring, relaxing, cutting, chemical applications, etc.
Use Products Wisely – Go easy on the products. If you apply gel to your hair, rather than fill the palms of your hands with the product, use a small, dime-size portion. The same would be true with hairspray. You do not want your hair to appear stiff but flowing and natural. Therefore, use a small amount of spray, allowing your hair to have movement.
