Hairstyles at the Workplace
September 3, 2008
Dressing to work is often ignored by men, some of whom prefer that extra power-nap to wasting time agonizing over their looks. Many avoid even looking into the mirror before they leave the house. It is common for men to choose simple, short hairstyles so that it is not essential to run a brush through their hair before they leave. That is one less chore. Dressing to work sets the pace for the day. You feel more confident, exuberant and positive. It sets the right perspective to take on tasks and challenges ahead.
Depending on the place of work, men actually have a range of looks to choose from. Relaxed atmospheres like those in ad agencies and young companies all encourage the employees to look trendy and exhibit their attitude through their attire and style. Experimenting with the hair is an option here, and you can even allow yourself the flowing locks you dreaded losing. There’s no compromise required.
For the regular corporate employee neat, short hair is mandatory. Conventional styles are preferred. Avoid colouring the hair, it gives the impression of being wayward and not serious enough. Another no-no is long sideburns. Keep them in check at al times. Look carefully for the scruff of your neck. Make sure it is fuzz-free always. Remind the hairdresser to run a razor around the back and remove any leftover fuzz.
Within the hospitality industry looks are most important. Grooming standards are set very high. Choose a conventional style – the impact you are trying to make is not one of a trendsetter. Avoid large hairstyles that intrude into the forehead. Keep the style and lines simple and clean. Make sure you use some product – a gel or mousse – on the hair to avoid unwanted strands moving around as the day progresses. Avoid hairstyles that require frequent combing or brushing. You might not have the chance of going back to your hair regularly, and the result may be very shabby.
Men can be charming with little effort. An interest developed to grooming the hair can contribute to the charm manifold.
