Hair Oils

Hair oils have been in controversy for very long with some experts suggesting the use of hair oil for healthy scalp and heat while others disputing this concept. Whether hair oil promotes growth or no, it surely works as a moisturizer for dry locks and soothes the scalp because of the massage strokes. It is said that massaging the head relieves stress and activates the natural oil glands of the scalp. Like body massage, head massage too has its own benefits. It makes sense to try various hair oils and the results yourself instead of getting into hair controversies.

We shall discuss the common types of hair oils, its properties and usage. To start with, let us talk about coconut oil, this has been in our household since centuries, specially South Indians use this oil excessively. Coconut oil does not occur naturally, the white flesh , when pressed yields an odorous solid fat which contains therapeutic properties.

To obtain coconut oil, fat is subjected to heat and the top liquid fraction is removed. Coconut oil is excellent for hair since it is an emollient. It also aids tanning. This oil has high absorption properties, when massaged on the scalp it penetrates up to 90% which is highest as compared to any other hair oil like castor oil, olive oil etc. Knowing this you sure would like to know about Castor oil.

This oil comes from a tall, quick growing, perennial woody shrub or small tree. Native to India but is now seen in many warm countries. It is beneficial for skin conditions like dryness, eczema etc. This oil is also applied on hair but needs to be mixed with some other oil since it is very viscid.
