Hair Loss Prevention Mantra

The first mantra to healthy hair is “Healthy You”, stress and bad eating habits play an important role in the health of your hair. Drink lots of water, avoid aerated drinks, and include fresh fruits and vegetables in your diet. Eat protein rich foods like pulses, coconut milk, egg whites, skimmed milk and curd. Get your beauty sleep of 8 hours, it is not only good for your skin but will also benefit your hair. Your hair too needs nourishment, so ditch the junk food and switch to healthier options like sandwich and salads.

Make salad a part of your diet, you will not only noursih your hair but will also loose few kilos. Salad aids digestion and fills the stomach quickly, so you don’t have to follow a strict diet. Do not indulge in crash diets, they can play havoc with your hair.

Some other gentle ways of preventing hair fall are:

1) Pulling hair - Do not pull your hair, it puts strain on your hair follicles and can result in permanent damage. Do not rub your scalp rigorously, pat your hair dry after a head bath. Too much of friction is not good.

2) Avoid using wigs or false hair, they don’t let your scalp breathe and suffocate the hair follicle. Unless prescribed by your doctor do not use a wig.

3) Rinse out shampoo or any hair products thoroughly from your hair, always use a mild shampoo that suits your hair types. Do not apply shampoo directly on your scalp, dilute it with water and then pour on your head.

4) If you go for swimming then either wet your hair before entering the pool or apply oil to coat the hair. This will ensure that your hair doesn’t absorb the chlorinated water from the pool. Also wear a swimming cap.

5) Allow your hair to air dry naturally, do not use a hair dryer every time you wash your hair. Hot air can be damaging to your hair, if you still want to use a dryer then use a cool setting.
