Hair Highlighting

Highlighting hair may seem simple, you just need to visit a salon and get your hair coloured in a shade that suits the model in the magazine. But highlighting is not so simple as it appears, specially selecting the right colour is very crucial. If you don’t choose an appropriate colour, it will look cheap and tacky. While selecting the colour there are two factors that you need to consider; the natural colour of your hair and your skin complexion. Highlighting as the name suggests is to lighten up your over all look and this can be done with proper colour selection. The colour you choose should not be too light than your original hair colour, you can go 2 shades lighter but anything beyond 3 shades is not good.

Never choose a hair colour that is darker than your original hair colour. Also consider the colour of your skin, if you are on a darker side then golden/yellow blondes will not compliment your skin tone. You could consider Mohag ony, Dark brown, Burgundy stay away from reds and greens they are too fancy. For those who have lighter skin tone can safely wear blondes in all shades, dark funky shades are ideal for light toned skin.

Once you narrow down on the colour, work towards minimising damage to your hair caused by chemical exposure. Some tips will help you save your tresses from the harsh chemical torture. Do not wash your hair on the day you go for colouring, wash it a day before with a clarifying shampoo so that there is no residue of any hair product.

Do not use Henna on your hair if you plan to highlight, there should be a gap of at least 3 months. Henna application doesn’t allow the colour pigments to penetrate inside the hair shaft. This reduces the brightness of the colour and chances are the colour will fade soon. Ensure that only the top layer of the hair is highlighted, this will damage only few hair and not the entire scalp.
