Like skin, our hair too suffers from diseases. Hair diseases like lice, bacteria, fungii can cause severe hair damages. Such scalp infections are highly contagious and spread from one person to another. Fungii is usually caused by dirt, grime and sweat. If the scalp is not clean such pollutants will stay on the scalp. When they are in touch with the natural hair oils, the condition aggravtes. Sebum, which is known as natural hair oil comes  in contact with dirt and sweat, it can lead to fungal infections.

It is utmost essential to keep the scalp clean. Such scalp diseases can be transmitted easily, they are very contagious. It spreads through towels, clothes, bed linen, pillow covers, combs and so on. It is best to consult a dermatologist to treat this condition.

But, as they say ” Prevention is better than cure”, so it is better to prevent this condition rather than curing it. And the only way to prevent is by keeping the hair and scalp clean. Wash your hair will a mild pH balanced shampoo everyday during these hot humid months. Follow it up with a light conditioner.

There is also a possibility of viral infection of the hair follicles. If you ever encounter any such scalp disease, the first thing to do is to cut your hair short. There is a common mistake people commit, they oil their hair throughout the week. Though oiling hair is good, but not washing off the oil is bad. Dust and grime stick easily on oiled hair and scalp thus making the hair dirty and smelly.

Hair should be oiled once or twice in a week and should be washed after 4 -5 hours of oiling. It is essential to keep the scalp and hair clean to keep all hair problems at bay. Another aspect to hair care is protection from the harmful rays of sun, whenever you step out in the sun wear a cap or a bandana. When hair is already in some problem, sun can have devastating effects on the scalp and hair.
