Hair Care Myths

When it comes to hair care there are many myths attached to it, we bust some of the common myths related to hair care.

Myth - Frequent Shampooing causes hair loss.

Truth – Hair doesn’t fall due to shampooing, in fact it helps in keeping the scalp clean. Use a mild shampoo which will not strip your hair of its natural pH balance and rinse it off completely.

Myth - Brushing hair hundred times is good for hair.

Truth – Excessive brushing can damage the hair and cause spilt ends and breakage, hair also gets uprooted easily. Brushing hair can over activate the sebaceous glands and lead to more oil secretion which will make the hair look limp and greasy.

Myth - Hair grows faster when it is cut frequently.

Truth - Hair grows at a normal rate of half an inch per month and cutting or trimming will not increase the growth rate. Only if you have split ends trimming can help infact it is required.

Myth - Shampoo and conditioners nourish the hair.

Truth - This is absolute rubbish, no shampoo or conditioner can ever nourish the hair, even if the product boasts about the protein content or any other such content. Whatever effect such products have is temporary so don’t get lured by tall claims.

Myth – Lack of zinc causes hair loss.

Truth - There is no evidence about this concept. So whether the levels of zinc are low or high it doesn’t affect your hair.

Myth - Wet hair will fall when combed

Truth - Hair should be combed when it is wet since the hair shaft swells when it is wet and gets tangled so if you don’t comb out the tangles when wet it will become difficult to detangle dry hair. Care should be taken to comb it gently with a wide toothed comb.
