Hair Care for Kids
Kids haircare is very important because they are constantly exposed to external factors while playing, pollutants like dust, grime, bacteria etc affect the quality of the hair. Haircare for kids starts when they are tiny toddlers and learn to walk since this is the time they will explore new territories.
Hair care products should be according to the age group your kid belongs to, so it is essential to choose the right product. As much as possible use natural hair care products for your child. You can try Aromatherapy as an alternative to other commercial hair products. Aromatherapy is the use of essential oils in diluted manner, they work when applied externally or inhaled.
Usually babies and infants respond well to natural healing methods, but their extra sensitivity must be taken into account. For babies between 0 to 12 months use only 1 drop of either lavender, rose, german chammomile or neroli essential oil, diluted in 1 teaspoon of carrier oil. The carrier oil can be any normal baby oil. This oil can be used for head massage. For infants between 1 to 5 years use only 2 -3 drops of the essential oil, diluted in 1 teaspoon of carrier oil. Older children enjoy the stimulation of different scents.
By the age of 6 they can recognise a wide range of smells, and enjoy being introduced to new experiences. It is fun to add a few drops of oil to the bath water or use it as a scent. Orange oil, mandarin oil or lavender oil are popular with children because they are familiar and have a sweet smell. Add about 5 drops to the bath at bedtime. For children between 6 to 12 years you can add approximately 6 to 8 drops of essential oils mixed with a carrier oil. For teenagers the concentration of essential oils can be increased and can be used as per adults.
