Hair Care After Perming

Perming is one of the most harsh and cruel things you can do to your hair, having done that it is important to take utmost care of your damaged hair. The perming process doesn’t end at the salon hence it is important to know what happens to your hair and the cycles your hair goes through during and after perming.

Perming breaks the natural bonds of your hair and reforms the structural bonds, though a neutralizer is applied after rinsing off the perming solution but your hair continues to form new bonds for two to three days. Hence after care is very important for any type of chemical treatment, more so after perming. Do not wash your hair for at least 2 – 3 days after perming since your hair forms new bonds and shampooing may interrupt this process and can lead to hair breakage.

Deep conditioning is a must after perming, it should be done at frequent intervals since the hair tends to get dry. Avoid sudden change in temperature immediately after a perming session since perming softens the keratin in your hair and damages the cuticle. Your hair becomes extremely vulnerable due to such changes in the hair structure and can easily break down causing severe hair loss.

There is a possibility that your hair might be resistant to changes in structural bonds and your hair stylist might have to use stronger chemicals, this again will cause more damage, it is advisable to keep away from chemical treatments if your hair is resistant to chemicals. Talk to your stylist about this and check if it is feasible to go for stronger treatment since this will permanently damage your hair shaft. If at all your perm fails or you don’t get the desired curls, please DO NOT Re – Do perming, it is the worst thing you can ever do to your already damaged hair.
