Hair Care After Holi
The festival of Holi is a wonderful celebration of colours. But the colours, we use can play havoc with your hair. Most colours today contain chemicals. Some are even composed of copper, lead, silver, aluminum and iodine. Our hair and skin has to bear the brunt of our enjoyment. These chemicals not only bleach the hair but can permanently damage it. The colour not only damages cuticles, which is the outer layer of the hair but also penetrates deeper into the shaft.
This causes breakage in your hair strands. You will be surprised to know that some of the colours contain dyes, engine oils and powdered glass.
With so much of information about the damaging effects of colours, you will think twice before playing Holi. Well, fret not, we share some easy steps to prevent or minimize the damage caused to your tresses. If you follow adequate after care, you can get your healthy hair back.
The first thing to do after Holi is to wash your hair with lukewarm water. Use a mild shampoo and lightly rub your hair. Rinse again with lukewarm water. Repeat this process, if the colour doesn’t run out of your hair. Follow up with a conditioner, which will soften the hair and prevent roughness caused due to the chemicals.
Dry your hair naturally and follow up with a hot oil massage. Apply olive oil and let it remain in your hair for at least a day. It will moisturise your tresses and soothe the shaft incase it is damaged. Apply curd mixed with black pepper powder on your scalp and hair. It is an excellent conditioner and will keep your hair nourished and hydrated.
Another home remedy is to use honey, mix 1 tablespoon honey in a jug of water and use it as a last rinse after shampooing. Your hair will get its original shine back with just 2 to 3 sessions.
