Hair Advice for Winter

Winter is that time of the year when you have to take extra care of your skin and hair. Our hair is exposed to damaging conditions during winter like harsh winds, cold chills and the dryness caused by central heating and the low temperatures. Central heating systems sap the moisture from your hair and also cause static. The low temperatures makes the hair dry and brittle, your wavy hair can get frizzy during this season and straight hair can get limpy.

Though controlling the temperature is not in your hands but when in a central heating system, use humidifiers or place a large bowl of water near the radiators. Also protect your hair all the time, whether you are indoors or outside, cover your hair with a silk cap and then use woollen caps and scarves. Also use intensive conditioners and leav-in conditioner’s during this season. There are some types of hair which are most affected by the cold winters.

Fine hair – To deal with this kind of hair, wash everyday with mild shampoo, followed with conditioner. Also use a leave in conditioner and avoid using heated instruments. Use serum to lock in the moisture in the hair.

Curly hair – An intensive conditioning treatment with hot oil massage is ideal for curly hair. Also avoid using flat irons, if you were to use one, then apply a good quality heat protecting spray.

Frizzy hair - This type of hair is difficult to deal with because it is drier than the other hair types. Use a deep conditioning mask to tame frizzy hair.

Oily hair - Though this hair wont get very dry but it can look limpy and greasy if not washed regularly. It is advisable to wash your hair with cold water (if you can bear it) or with luke warm water, if you cannot withstand cold water then use it as a final rinse.
