Grey Hair in Children
Having grey hair in such a young age? It is really a cause of great concern. There is no doubt that it is very normal for the hair to turn grey in old age. However, if an individual finds grey hair patches in a very young age, it is a cause of concern. The problem is considered to be more serious if grey hair are visible in children.
It may be very strange to hear about a child getting grey hair, but it is a reality. There are incidences when a child may be facing the problem of grey hair. There may be various reasons for the hair turning grey in young children. Let us here discuss about grey hair in children.
The hair turns grey due to lack of production of melanin in the body. Melanin is a coloring agent and supplies color to the hair. Lack of proper nutrition and diet may result in its deficiency. This is a cause that is most of the times found in adult hood and rarely occurs in young children.
In most of the cases, grey hair in children is hereditary. There are great chances that if a child has grey hair, then someone in the family may be also having this problem of premature graying of the hair.
Grey hair in children can also occur due to lack of Vitamin B 12 in the body. This may be a cause due to some serious illness or any surgery. Strict vegetarians may also face this problem at times.
Children having disorders such as thyroid and skin pigmentation may also face the problem of premature graying of the hair.
Grey hair due to genetics has no solution. However, other causes of grey hair in children can be treated if proper care is taken. In order to deal with the problem of grey hair in children, it is very important that they take a good diet, rich in essential vitamins and minerals. One can also make use of vegetable dyes to mask the grey hair. Use of chemical dyes should be avoided as they may cause skin cancer.
