The food we eat, plays a vital role in the way we look. Healthy eating habits often show up on the skin and hair, keep a check on your diet for a youthful look. Fruits and vegetables have loads of vitamins, minerals, acids and antioxidants. Different coloured foods have different properties, it is therefore important to include all the colours in your palette.
Each colour has a unique ability to build the immune system in its own way, these colourful foods helps in supplying phytochemicals to our body. We decode some of the colourful benefits of fruits and vegetables.
Green - Green foods are good for the circulatory system and they also contain minerals and B- Complex. As much as possible try to consume half cooked or boiled green vegetables since heating causes loss if colour and the nutrients. Some common green foods are broccoli, spinach, cabbage and lettuce.
Red – Red foods contain phytochemicals meant for reducing damage caused due to free radical. Some red foods are tomatoes, watermelon and red cabbage and capsicum.
Orange - Orange coloured foods contain carotenoids and help prevent cancer. They are also good for eyesight, hence carrot juice is known for improving vision. Orange foods like carrot, pumpkins, papaya, oranges and sweet potatoes should be consumed everyday.
White - White foods like garlic and onions contain anti-bacterial, anti- viral and anti-fungal properties. Garlic and onion contain allicin which gives them these properties. Apart from onion and garlic, some other white foods are banana and pears.
Yellow - Yellow foods are often in combination with green and such green-yellow foods contain properties that help reduce the risk of developing cataract and muscular degeneration. Some of the green yellow foods are green peas, avocados, musk melon, yellow corn.
Include all the possible colours of food in your diet to get a glowing skin and healthy hair. It is best to consume fruits and vegetables in its raw form for maximum health benefit.
