Emergency Skin Treatment
Skin emergency can arise anytime – at your cubicle, in the flight or while travelling. We help you prepare yourself to take charge of the situation before professional help arrives. Put up this first aid emergency guide on your soft board.
Treat burns- Minimize the damage by removing clothing and cool the burned parts as quickly as possible with cold water. Cool the victim for the next 10 minutes by pouring buckets of cold water over him/her. Check if the airway is clear, cover the burns with clean dressings to reduce the risk of infection.
Give the victim regular sips of cold water to replace any lost fluid. If there is any swelling after a mild burn then rub the peel of banana on the affected area. It has soothing properties, the swelling will reduce immediately.
Treat wounds - Open wounds must be covered in order to reduce the risk of wound infection. Wash the wound and the surrounding skin thoroughly with soap and water. Remove any foreign material and dirt from the wound. Wash hands and then shake them dry.
Swab the skin around the wound with an antispectic cream/lotion. Apply a sterile dressing or Band -aid type bandage after the wound has been thoroughly cleaned. If the wound does not show any signs of healing after the first day, and is accompanied by increasing pain, heat, swelling or throbbing, consult a doctor.
Treat rashes - Rashes caused due to dryness, infection, insect bites and skin conditions like eczema can be treated at home. Rub the peel of banana (inside part) on the affected area, apply aloe vera gel. Both of them have soothing properties and work as emollients. Rubbing ice on the affected area relieves itching temporarily. Avoid scratching with hand since it can worsen the condition. Apply the paste of sandalwood mixed with rose water, it has a cooling effect on the skin.
