Effects of Chemical Treatments

We often experiment with our hair to change our looks, to look different and why not, a right hairstyle can make you look younger. If you get your hair right you can chop off years from your face. But tread with caution for a new hairstyle can leave a permanent damage, protect your hair from the chemical onslaught. There are loads of options for styling your hair like perming, re bonding, highlighting, streaking etc, it is necessary to follow some precaution when you go for such chemical treatments.

Perming - This is a method of curling your hair, perming breaks the original bonds of your hair and rebonds the hair in a curled manner. chemicals are used to break and reform the structural bonds of your hair. Then your hair is rolled on a perm rod, the size of the curls will be determined by the thickness of the rod and how tightly it has been wrapped. If you desire soft curls then it should not be wrapped very tightly and vice versa.

A chemical solution is applied which raises the cuticle of the hair strand and breaks off the bonds of your natural hair, now the chemical solution is rinsed off after few hours and a neutralizer is applied to reform the bonds of the hair with the new hair pattern (curls). This process of breaking the natural bonds of your hair and then reforming new ones is extremely damaging for your hair, moreover, hair loss also occurs if the chemical is left on the hair for too long or when excess chemical is used and you wouldn’t know all this until the damage is done. Avoid perming if you have recently coloured your hair, always comb your hair patiently to avoid tangles.

Rebonding - Rebonding makes your hair poker straight by treating the bonds in your hair. The chemical bonds of your hair are broken, then they are rearranged and bonded back again permanently. Once rebonded the hair will remain straight forever, however, the new hair growth will be of the original nature. This procedure of breaking the hair bonds requires use of strong chemicals.

The procedure also requires ironing the hair several times which can actually burn your hair if the temperature is more than 180 degrees. Rebonded hair becomes weak and can break easily, avoid rebonding if you are already suffering from hair loss or if you have coloured your hair.
