Don’t Brush Your Hair Too Much

Hair brushing and combing is an inseparable part of our life but too much of it can ruin your tresses. Moderate combing or brushing is required to keep knots and snarls at bay. It helps in maintaining the health of your hair. Good hair care is essential for preventing hair loss or hair fall and other kind of damages.

There are some rules to combing, never comb your hair too often, 2 to 3 times a day is fine. Anything beyond that is not appropriate. Also the grandma’s secret’s about brushing your hair 100 times before going to sleep is a myth. So do not fall for this myth, if you brush your hair a hundred times every night, you will be inviting trouble. There will be no hair left for brushing or combing. Another important thing is the quality of the comb or brush. It should not hurt the scalp, it should be soft on the scalp.

The comb shouldn’t have extremely fine bristles else it will not remove knots efficiently. The material of the comb or brush also matters a lot. The best material for a comb would be wood and for brushes it would be boar bristles. Though it is a little expensive and high on maintenance, it is worth the money spent. Never use plastic combs or brushes, they are the worst enemies of hair. Alternatively, you could use fiber bristles. It is important to keep the brush or comb clean and the best way to clean them is by soaking it in warm soapy water for half an hour. Allow it to air dry.

Another important thing about brushing or combing is the manner in which you comb. Never brush your hair rigorously, it will damage the cuticles. This kind of damage is by far the worst damage and can lead to severe hair loss. Hair should be handled gently, rough handling of hair often leads to split ends. These deadly split ends make your hair dry and frizzy and ultimately cause hair breakage.

Though they start from the ends, they can spread upwards like fire. Moreover, there is no cure for split ends. The only way to get rid of them is by trimming your hair. It is important to take proper steps on time, once it spreads across the head you may have to go bald or eventually you will loose hair. People do not take split ends seriously, but this is a serious hair problem and needs proper care and attention.
