Diet is known to be of prime importance for skin and hair care, a nutritious diet is what one needs for healthy hair. A healthy diet can slow down hair fall and sometimes reverse it completely. Nutritional deficiencies can cause weakening of hair and cause breakage, it also slows down the growth of hair. There are certain vitamins and minerals that are necessary for healthy hair growth. Vitamins like A, B, C, Biotin and minerals like copper, iron, zinc and silica are essential for the health of your hair.
Crash dieting or fad diets that require extreme diet plans to be followed can play havoc with your hair. These diets incorporate extreme changes in the eating habits for quick results, though you may loose inches in just a few weeks but be ready to say goodbye to your hair.
Even laxatives are harmful for your hair since they don’t allow the nutrients to stay in your body, it flushes away all the necessary nutrients, so if your diet requires the intake of laxatives chances are your hair will shed.
Some of the foods that are good for healthy hair growth are as follows:
1) Water melon, musk melon, bananas, berries, oranges and apples are a good source of Vitamins for your body.
2) Green leafy vegetables like spinach, broccoli, cabbage etc provide additional vitamins to your body and nourishes the hair.
3) Our hair is made up of dead protein called keratin so you need to feed your hair with protein which is available in milk, cheese and dairy products.
4) For those who eat non-vegetarian food, meat is also helpful in preventing hair loss. A diet which includes chicken, fish, organ meat (liver), egg etc is healthy for you and your hair. Also try to consume water, atleast 8 to 10 glasses of water is required for healthy hair and a glowing skin.
