Deal With Nappy Rash
Nappy rash is an inflammation of skin around the genitals, thighs and buttocks. The delicate skin of babies gets inflammed and is either extremely dry or very moist, it looks red and sometimes pimply. Nappy rash should be treated immediately to avoid further skin diseases like fungal or bacterial infections. It is mainly caused due to wetness, infants urinate a lot and they also pass loose stool frequently. If the nappy is not changed immediately it leads to this condition. No matter how absorbent the nappy is, it needs to be changed immediately to keep the skin dry and clean.
At times nappy rash is caused due to skin allergies, some nappies are scented and use alcohol based fragrances which can irritate the skin. If allergy is your concern the switch over to a cloth nappy, it is by far the best nappy to be used. To keep wetness at bay, remove the nappy completely for few hours in a day.
Let the skin breathe freely and allow the rash to heal naturally. Nappy rash is aggravated when the baby starts crawling, friction caused due to the rubbing of nappy with skin causes this aggravation. Nappy rash can be treated easily at home, but it is better to adopt measures to prevent it.
The first step to prevention is to keep the skin dry and follow good hygiene. Change the nappy frequently and use cloth nappies at home. Don’t tie the nappies very tightly, it will increase the friction and will not allow circulation of air. Never use plastic panties, they are the worst enemies of skin, plastic doesn’t allow the skin to breathe.
Before putting on the nappy, apply a liberal amount of skin ointment recommended by your doctor. Also use anti-bacterail powder, this will work like film between the nappy and skin. Follow these simple tips and be careful with the first sign of nappy rash.
