Deal With Dry Dehydrated Skin
Winters can be a nightmare for those who have a dry skin, a lot of moisturizing is required to keep the skin supple and soft. Extremely dry skin can lead to itching and other skin conditions like eczema, psoriasis and so on. Hydrating the skin regularly, at least twice in a day is required to keep it looking healthy. The best time to apply moisturizer is after bath in the morning and before bed time. Apply the moisturizer when the skin is a little damp after bath, it will penetrate deeper into the skin layers.
Avoid using petroleum jelly since it doesn’t have the property to penetrate inside the skin, it forms a thin film on the skin. Petroleum jelly merely coats the skin instead of nourishing it from within.
The best type of moisturizer is Shea Butter, it has properties to deeply hydrate the skin and works for longer hours. There are few more things that you can do to improve the quality and texture of dry skin.
There are some tips to take care of dry skin:
1) Drink loads of water, it is the most simple and the best remedy for dry skin.
2) Never use alkaline based soaps or face washes, always use a pH balanced mild soap preferably hand crafted. Also avoid skin products that contain alcohol.
3) Avoid extremely long and hot baths, hot water will further dry out the skin, instead use lukewarm water for baths.
4) Use emollients instead of the regular moisturizers they offer deep moisturizing by replacing the lipids. Emollients are very rich and lubricate the skin thoroughly.
5) Eat a diet rich in Vitamin A,C, antioxidants and Omega 3 fats. Stay away from sun, but if you cannot avoid it completely then use a sunscreen before stepping out of the house. Use a sunscreen that offers protection from UVA and UVB rays.
