While we all know the harmful effects of sun tan, but being on a guard against the sun can actually be a pain in the neck. Though sun protection is not all that difficult, most people are either not aware about the harsh effects of sun or are lazy to take the efforts. We need to realize that tanned skin is unhealthy and too much exposure to the sun can cause skin cancer. So protect yourself from the Ultra Violet rays of the sun.
It is said that the UV rays are present throughout the year which means one would need sun protection in all seasons. There are two types of UV rays, namely UVA and UVB the former one is always in the same strength throughout the year while the latter varies according to the season.
UVB rays may fluctuate in its intensity with the season but UVA rays remain constant through all the seasons. If you think you don’t need sun protectionn during monsoon or winter, then think again.
These rays can penetrate the thickest of clouds, they are even capable of penetrating glass. Sun rays not only cause the skin to tan but they can actually burn the skin. Sun rays, aggravate wrinkles, infact they cause wrinkles.
Having understood the harmful effects of sun tan, let us look at the ways to protect our skin. Firstly you need a sunscreen with an SPF of at least 15, also it is important to use different types of sunscreens depending on your exposure to sun.
For example, if you are on a beach then you would need a water resistant or water proof sunscreen, so also for swimming you need this kind of sunscreen. The latest type of sunscreen specially for beaches is like a lotion but dries like powder and doesn’t allow the sand to stick to your body.
For those who are into sports, a suncreen with higher SPF is recommended. Also those who don’t like a greasy layer on sunscreen, it is good to use sunscreen in the form of gel. Gels are usually light and get absorbed quickly within few seconds of application. Remember whatever type of sunscreen you use, a re-application every 2 to 3 hours is a must.
