Causes and Prevention of Hair Loss

There are several causes of hair loss and here we intend to discuss some of the causes and prevention methods. One of the most common type of hair loss is due to age. As we grow older our hair follicle shrinks and thus hair growth is retarded.

This means that there is no new growth and the existing hair also tends to fall, which further causes thinning and baldness in some cases. This kind of hair loss cannot be reversed but it can be prevented. If you take care of your hair, you can prevent it from falling.

But this care should begin in the early years, as early as 20′s. A good hair care regime that includes regular washing, conditioning, oiling and so on is mandatory to keep the hair in good shape. Another cause of excessive hair loss is stress, in fact, it has gripped many working professionals. The high levels of stress at work can make you crazy and play havoc with your hair. Stress is the cause of all hair and skin related problems.

There is no medicine for stress, you cannot reduce it by taking some remedies, you have consider things meant for relaxing your mind. For instance, yoga, meditation, exercise, swimming etc are very de-stressing and can work wonders for your hair and skin.

Some other causes of hair loss include environmental factors like pollution, dirt, grime, sweat, weather conditions. You would have noticed that hair loss is more during winters and monsoons as compared to summers. This is because our metabolism becomes sluggish during the cold seasons and is very active during summers.

Though you cannot do anything about seasonal hair loss, you can certainly save your hair from environmental factors. Simple things like wearing a hair sunscreen, covering the head when exposed to sun for longer hours, using a scarf or hat in dusty areas are some ways in which you can prevent hair damage and subsequent hair fall. You also need to keep your hair clean and free of pollutants.
