Benefits of Reetha (Soap- nut)

Soap nut is known as Reetha in Hindi, it is an asian herb and found in India and Nepal during summer. The nutshell of reetha contains saponin, which acts like soap forms lather and foam when mixed with water.It is one of the best chemical-free cleanser for the hair.

Reetha is also known to fight dandruff, prevents occurrence of lice and keeps hair tangle-free. Reetha, is a boon for curing hair loss since it is the mildest kind of cleanser and can be used everyday. The ripened fruit of soap nut is soaked in water overnight and then mashed to obtain the puree, this is used instead of shampoo. The skin of reetha is used as a detergent for washing clothes, it cleans cloth by allowing water to enter fabric to remove dirt. It is best for delicate fabrics and woollens.

Soap nut shells are natural and environmental friendly detergents, even the waste water from washing can use re- used for irrigation.

You can also use soap nut powder or liquid directly on your hair, gently work up lather while massaging your scalp.

Allow the soap nut powder to work on your scalp for a few minutes and then wash thoroughly. A simple recipe for preparing Reetha shampoo is as follows; Take 5 to 6 cups of water and add 6-7 whole soap nut shells to the water. Boil it and simmer for half an hour, strain the boiled nuts and pour the remaining liquid into a bottle to use as a shampoo for your hair.
