Beginners Guide To Hair Colouring

Hair coloring has been in vogue since years now, with almost every one wanting to highlight their hair. Hair coloring or highlighting has its own perils, so before you step into the salon glance through the pro’s and con’s of highlighting your hair. Though it is safe to highlight hair but a cheap brand can cause untold damage to your tresses. Go for a product from a reputed brand, it is softer on your hair. Do not apply henna atleast 3 months prior to colouring or highlighting your hair chemically. The colour pigments will not penetrate through the hair shaft, thus the hair colour will fade quickly or you may not get the right shade.

Before any chemical treatment your hair should be in its natural form. Never use bleach or hydrogen peroxide, it will ruin your hair completely and can cause severe breakage. Also do a patch test to check if you are allergic to any chemicals. Even if you notice a slight irritation don’t go ahead with the colouring, it can be very dangerous.

I have known people who have had skin irritation after patch yet went ahead with the chemical processing and ended up with a pumpkin face. The allergic reactions are so severe that it can cause immense swelling of the scalp and face. In one of such cases the person had to be hospitalised in Intensive care unit.

So tread carefully, if you are allergic to hair colour don’t lose heart you can try some semi-permanent colour. Permanent hair colours are stronger and contain certain chemicals which is harmful whereas semi-permanent hair colour is milder and suits many.

The next important thing about highlighting is the choice of colour, discuss about the desired hair colour with your hair dresser and always go for crown streaking if you are doing it for the first time. It will be easier to get rid of the colour if you don’t like the final result and will be less damaging to your hair as compared to global colouring.
