Beautiful Lips

During anytime of the year our lips need special care and attention but they need the most in winter. During winter they become chapped and dry due to lack of moisture. There are many lip balms and chap-sticks available in the market, but not all of them are advantageous for the skin cells of the lips.

These days mineral oil based lip balms with petroleum jelly as the main ingredient is selling all over. Petroleum jelly is not a very effective lip balm; it only provides temporary relief and is a comedogenic ingredient. It does not help in augmenting the moisture absorbing capacity of the skin. A great alternative to petroleum jelly based lip balm is the lip balm that uses shea butter.

Shea butter is known to have properties that increase the capacity of the lip skin cells to retain moisture. It creates a barrier or shield to protect the skin from environmental assault. It helps the skin cells to retain moisture and regain its elasticity.

Shea butter also helps in other seasons since it protects the lips from heat and humidity. It is therefor essential to choose a right lip balm, read the ingredients before you buy one. Lip balm is the gateway to soft, beautiful and luscious lips. Few home care tips can also help in treating chapped lips.

1) Take 2 teaspoons each of pumpkin paste, almond oil (non perfumed) and milk. Put it in a hand blender and make a thick paste, store it in a refrigerator and apply 2 -3 times in a day. Discard it after a week.

2) Blend equal proportions of orange pulp and honey and apply on your lips everyday, its ok to swallow it since it is edible.

3) Mix 2 teaspoons of honey, almond oil, Vitamin E oil, strawberry pulp (sieved) and apply this as a lip gloss. Store it in a refrigerator, it stays upto a week.
